Arriving at the Grand Canyon and Our Goals

Last year I went out west to visit the Grand Canyon with my sister-in-law.  It was my first time to see it. and it was awe-inspiring. 

I felt a wonderful sense of connectedness and smallness as I gazed out into it.  Something about the vastness of it felt comforting and inspired a sense of overall possibility.

One of the things that stood out to me about the Grand Canyon was how you come upon it.  It’s huge so I expected to see it well before I got to it.  But it wasn’t until I was almost right up on it that I saw it.  It was a strange experience because it makes quite an impression once you see it, but for most of the journey, it’s hidden.

Sometimes our dreams and goals can feel like that.  We know what we are going after and we expect to start seeing the signs that it’s coming.  Yet there aren’t any indicators that we are close.  Then all of a sudden there it is.

While the reveal is exciting, it can be challenging being on the journey expecting to see some signs of success but not seeing them.  

This last year I’ve found it beneficial to keep remembering my experience with the Grand Canyon.  It was there even when I couldn’t see it.
Keeping this in mind when going after something can help me not stop before arriving at my destination.

Our approach to arriving at the Grand Canyon was staying on the road, continuing to follow the signs pointing us in the direction we wanted to go, and after a time we got there.

The same can be true for going after a goal or dream.  When we are clear on where we want, the path to travel, and are willing to travel it then our goals can come to awe-inspiring fruition.
